Stocking Your Fridge for Success: Part 1

I’m so excited to share with you this 3 part blog series about setting yourself up for success, starting in fridge! I know we all have different definitions of what makes us feel our best, but I think we can all agree that eating healthy and nutritionally dense foods is a great place to start. Maybe you’re wanting to begin your own journey to health and wellness, but you don’t know where to start.

It can feel overwhelming…

I have been there.

I’m a busy Wife and Mom of two little ones, who was struggling to find energy, motivation, and rhythm in a really crazy season of life… it’s tough. But with the right tools you can do it!

I’m so happy to say that over the last two years I’ve figured out what works for me, being centered in what I consider a “healthy lifestyle” and really preparing myself for success has been the biggest change for me.

  1. Clean out your fridge! (Check out my new fridge here!) You should probably clean out your pantry too. Toss anything that has expired or is consider “junk food”. I’m talking “Marie Kondo” that stuff, if you don’t need it and it won’t get you closer to your health goals- then toss it! Once you’ve cleaned out your spaces, wash and wipe down every area you had food stored.
  2. Make a plan! Now that your fridge and pantry are refreshed, let’s refresh your “GOALS”.. What is YOUR goal? Do you need to start adding more veggies into every meal? Maybe you’re bored with your current rotation of meals and you need to switch things up or find healthier substitutions. Once you access your goals and maybe peruse Pinterest for some healthy recipes, you’re going to write down five- six dinners for the week. I always leave an opening for one dinner date night each week! 😉
  3. Plan all other meals/snacks. This can be SO simple if you don’t mind repeating meals and eating leftovers. I suggest picking 1-3 different meal ideas for breakfasts, 1-3 different snacks, and 1-3 different lunches and just repeat/rotate throughout the week. You can also double your recipes at dinner time and eat leftovers for lunch the next day. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.
  4. Make your grocery list! Now that you have your meals planned you’re going to create a grocery list around those meals. I use the Samsung Family Hub App to create my grocery list. The Samsung Family Hub connects to my phone so I always have my list with me when I’m at the grocery store. I can add to my shopping list from anywhere and no more forgetting my list in the car! Wohooooo!!! While making your list, take a look at every ingredient in each meal and cross off items you may already have and then add the ones you don’t to your list. Stick to your list, don’t buy things that you didn’t plan for.
  5. Find a routine. Carve out a day/time that works best for you each week to “Meal plan” and grocery shop and STICK TO IT every week! I typically meal plan on Thursdays and grocery shop on Fridays, but do whatever works for YOU! It may take some trial and error to find the best way to make this work for you and your schedule, but I promise if you commit to planning for success, you will find it!

I hope you enjoyed reading these tips! I’d love to know how you stock your fridge for success!
