Stocking Your Fridge For Success: Part 2- Meal Prep Tips

The number ONE way I find success with eating healthy and staying on track with my nutrition is by MEAL PREPPING! I know the idea of meal prepping can sound daunting to some, but I PROMISE even the simplest things you can do to prep your food makes the biggest difference in the long run. Having this new Samsung Hub fridge has inspired me stay organized and on top of my healthy lifestyle.

In “Part 1” of this series (read here) I talked about cleaning out your fridge and making room for your healthy foods. We have been LOVING our new Samsung Family Hub fridge! The double refrigerator doors makes storing food even easier since the space is so much wider and open. I can actually see my prepped foods now.

Now that you’ve cleaned out your fridge, planned your meals, and grocery shopped; you’re ready to start prepping!

  1. WASH, CUT, AND PREP: Hopefully you picked out a lot of fresh veggies and fruit, because the first thing you’re going to do is WASH, CUT & PREP them. I do this right when I get home from grocery shopping, because lets be real- if I buy a ton of produce and just shove it in my fridge it never gets eaten and often goes bad. I hate admitting that, but it’s the truth. My favorite fruits and veggies to prep are celery, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, baby carrots, grapefruits, and apple slices. *Tip: squeeze fresh lemon over the apples to keep them from turning brown. I like to put them in small glass containers so I can conveniently grabbed them for a snack when I’m in a hurry. Another thing I like to do that cuts down on cooking time, is create a mix of pre-cut veggies and store in a bag or container that is ready to be cooked, so all you have to do at meal time is grab the stored bag of veggies and bake or steam them. I also like to roast a big batch of Broccoli and add it to my lunches and dinners throughout the week, if it’s cooked and prepped I am 99% more likely to actually eat it. Think about the veggies you need to get into your diet and how you can prepare them to ensure you will eat yours too. 🙂
  2. PREPARE COMPLEX CARBS: I know carbs can get a bad rap, but the reality is our body NEEDS them! I like to get my carbs from foods such as quinoa, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, rice, and whole grain pastas. When I’m prepping my foods I like to prepare something like this Quinoa Salad (recipe here) for the week or cut up potatoes and bake a few batches to have with my chicken and veggies or with eggs in the morning. The idea here is to pick a couple things and make them in batches, that way you’ll have a few options stored in your fridge to create a healthy meal at the drop of a dime.
  3. PREP THAT PROTEIN: Whether you’re a meat eater or vegan it’s important to eat some protein to balance out your meals with proper macronutrients. Whatever that looks like for you, be intentional about getting it in. I personally like to prep hard boiled eggs, chicken, fish, and occasionally some lean beef. I like to cook my protein in batches, meaning only a couple days worth at a time, because I like it as fresh as possible. Grill up some chicken or tofu and cut in into bite size pieces so it can be easily added to a salad or with rice and veggies.
  4. STAY ORGANIZED: Now that you have a variety of foods prepped and ready to store, keeping your foods as organized as possible in your fridge is a must. I’m a big believer in that fact that a lot of us actually eat with our eyes. If your foods look organized and are stored in a way that looks appealing to you, you’re more likely to reach for it. My new Samsung Hub Fridge makes is so easy to keep my food organized and easy to grab when I need to make something quick. I keep everything stored in the same parts of my fridge and it really helps me know what I actually have each week when it’s time to shop and prep again.

These tips are really helpful in just having clean, whole foods readily available, even if you don’t have the time or energy to prep multiple meals. These tips are doable for anyone, no matter how busy you are. I hope these quick tips inspired some ideas for you to find success in your healthy lifestyle!
